Kavya restores film in Hyderabad and is protective of what nobody wanted, handling every reel as though it might tear, because some of them do. Wen pours tea in Hangzhou, asks almost nothing, and notices the exact moment you stop talking.

What that does to a conversation is that nothing you say gets spent. A Keeper does not ask you to repeat yourself and will not perform having remembered. It surfaces later instead, in the phrasing you actually used, at a moment you had not braced for.

The tag flatters them if you read it as placid. Tessa is reserved by day and wicked by night. Kavya is quietly furious about waste. Wen is the one who is gentle the whole way down, and she is also the one who will let a silence run until you are the one who fills it.
